Dr. Alfonso S. Garcia Plaza, Geologist

 

Dr. Alfonso S. Gracia Plaza graduated in Geological Science at the University of Salamanca. He was subsequently made a Doctor in Economic Geology and has both taught and done research at the University, where he still imparts specific courses as a visiting professor. He has also undertaken further studies in Business Administration and Environmental Engineering.

He has worked in geological exploration and evaluation of mining projects for thirty-five years, on over a hundred projects spanning five continents. Companies he has worked for include Exminesa (COMINCO), Canadian Superior Exploration Ltd. (CANSUPEX), B.P. Minerals International Ltd., etc.

Up to 1992 he was a Director of INGECON, S.A., a consulting firm specialising in the application of new technology, and has been, since October, 1988, President of Desarrollo de Recursos Geologicos, S.A. (DRG), working in the management of I&D in natural resources.

With wide experience in management, he has been administrator, board member and consultant for various companies: RAMROD Iberica de Espana, S.A., DRESA, Serpa & Gracia, Grupo IBERSTONE, Grupo AMPER, Ibersat, Grupo Caggiatti, Asesores Bursatiles, Mitsubishi, CRIMIDESA, Grupo COLOROBBIA, etc., and consultant and project evaluator for different Directorate-Generals of the European Commission.

He participated as an expert consultant on the 'Pressure Indicators Project' (Environmental Indicators and Green Accounting) of EUROSTAT (1995-1996).

He is also a habitual collaborator with different public institutions and foundations in questions of technological innovation and the rational use of natural resources.
